Cycling 9 days / 8 nights - Perfect Mekong Delta

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh – My Tho – Ben Tre (50km) (L, D)
We’ll transfer out of the city to My Tho, the gateway to the Mekong Delta, where we’ll take a boat trip to explore local homes and businesses on the water. Then, we’ll cycle through the islands and coconut plantations before heading to the town of Ben Tre for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Ben Tre – Tra Vinh – Soc Trang (85km) (B, L)
After crossing the Mekong River by ferryboat, we’ll ride to Mo Cay, once considered the homeland of communists during the Vietnam War. We’ll cycle through rural villages and tracks to the Khmer town of Tra Vinh, where we’ll visit the historic Ba Om Pond and the oldest Ang pagoda. In the afternoon, we’ll continue deeper into the Mekong to Soc Trang for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Soc Trang – Bac Lieu – Ca Mau (60km) (B, L)
After breakfast, we’ll visit the famous Bat Pagoda, where hundreds of bats hang from the trees and pagoda roofs—an unusual and fascinating sight. Then, we’ll cycle along narrow country lanes and dirt tracks to Bac Lieu. Lunch will be at a local restaurant, formerly the home of the “Bac Lieu Prince.” After lunch, we’ll transfer to Ca Mau, at the southern tip of Vietnam, for an overnight stay.

Day 4: Ca Mau – Rach Gia (100km) (B, L)
We’ll start with a long morning ride through unspoiled countryside with breathtaking views. After a picnic lunch, we’ll have a shorter afternoon ride, followed by a quick transfer to Rach Gia—the gateway to Phu Quoc Island—where we’ll stay overnight.

Day 5: Rach Gia – Ha Tien (55km) (B, L)
After breakfast, we’ll transfer to a quiet road to begin our ride. We’ll cycle past limestone mountains to Hon Chong, a Buddhist pilgrimage site with a sacred pagoda. After lunch at the top of the hill overlooking the sea, we’ll continue to Ha Tien, crossing the To Chau bridge where the sea meets the river. We’ll stay overnight in Ha Tien.

Day 6: Ha Tien – Chau Doc (85km) (B, L)
In the morning, we’ll cycle along the Cambodian border, following the historic Vinh Te canals, which date back to the early 19th century. These canals are still vital for irrigation today. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch before riding to Chau Doc, where we’ll enjoy a sunset view from the top of Sam Mountain.

Day 7: Chau Doc – Cao Lanh (60km) (B, L)
After a short ferry ride, we’ll cycle along the Mekong’s rivers to Cao Lanh. Lunch will be at a local restaurant before we ride to Cho Moi along scenic country roads. After catching a ferry to Cao Lanh, we’ll visit Tram Chim Bird Sanctuary, famous for its rare red cranes. Dinner will be at a local restaurant known for its specialty: rat meat (other options are available!). We’ll stay overnight in Cao Lanh.

Day 8: Cao Lanh – Can Tho (65km) (B, L)
We’ll start the day with a ferry transfer, followed by a bus ride to our cycling starting point on road 849. The ride offers scenic views of the Hau River and local villages. We’ll take a ferry to Can Tho, where you’ll have free time to explore before enjoying dinner at a riverfront restaurant.

Day 9: Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh City (30km) (B, L)
We’ll begin the day with a tour of the famous Cai Rang floating market, where locals sell fresh produce from their boats. We’ll also visit a local workshop to see how rice noodles and other staples are made. After a short 30km ride, we’ll board a bus for a transfer back to Ho Chi Minh City, where our trip ends.
