Day 1: Hoi An – Da Nang – Lang Co – Hue 60km+ (L)
You’ll warm up on a flat section for about 30 km before a 10 km climb to the top of Hai Van Pass. This pass is 500 m high, and its name translates to “Pass of the Ocean Clouds.” Part of the Annamite Mountain Range, the Hai Van Pass is considered one of the most beautiful in the country. We’ll take some time to admire the view. Then, we’ll cycle downhill to Lang Co Beach for swimming and lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll resume cycling and stop briefly at the Ghost City to see a reenactment of the traditional customs of the local people of Central Vietnam. Afterward, we’ll continue riding for about 5 km to Truong Ha Bridge, where we’ll turn onto a backcountry road that passes through rural villages, rice paddies, rivers, and bamboo forests. We’ll stop at Thanh Toan Covered Bridge, where you can take a break to take pictures, meet local people, and see temples, schools, and a local market. Finally, we’ll complete our trip with a 7 km ride across a vast rice paddy to Hue for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Hue 45km+ (B, L)
We’ll take the entire second day to explore Hue. One of Vietnam's cultural, religious, and educational centers, Hue was recently designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll have a short boat ride on the Perfume River in the morning before cycling the back roads through lush countryside on a mix of footpaths and quiet country lanes. You may visit the Imperial Citadel at your leisure. After exploring the ruins of this grand monument to the emperors, we’ll ride on back roads along the banks of the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda. Afterward, we’ll continue on to the Minh Mang Mausoleum and loop back across the river to Hue via the funerary monument to Khai Dinh.
